See ProfileAcross Cambridgeshire, there are juniors playing at all levels, from those hitting their first-ever ball to those playing in international competitions. This is all supported through clubs and the county association working in partnership with our excellent coaches to give all juniors a way into the sport.
Below the junior pathway is set out on how players develop through the county system, all of this is underpinned by the club’s system.

The county organises a variety of events to encourage the playing of squash between children from different clubs. Two of our main series of events are the Cambridgeshire Junior Friendly Series and the Cambridgeshire Junior Squash League. The Junior Friendly Series is held at different clubs around the county and is aimed more at early learners and improvers. The Junior Squash League is a team-based event that is aimed more at juniors who are keen to play competitive matches in a fun and friendly environment. Each year, the county also runs the junior closed championships, which are open to all Cambridgeshire juniors and which determine the county champion in each of the age groups, from boys’ and girls’ Under 9s through to Under 19s.
Junior competitions are split into multiple categories and age groups. Age groups are generally Boys and Girls U9, U11, U13, U15, U17 and U19. The system means there competitions suitable for all ability levels. Whether you are new to competitive squash or an experienced player, we can help you find the right competition level to support the development of your squash skills. England Squash (the governing body) sanction events into different categories but there also multiple unsanctioned events run as well. The different categories are explained below:
Copper competitions are the perfect way for players to start their competitive squash journey. These entry-level competitions are fun, engaging and allow new players to the sport, the opportunity to develop their skills.

Bronze competitions are local ‘open’ tournaments that attract both local players and nationally ranked juniors. Games will be played as best of five.

There are traditionally seven silver competitions per year and these are spread across the country throughout the season.

There are traditionally 3 gold competitions per year and these are spread across the country throughout the season.
Who it’s for: the best juniors in England

Coaching can be in many forms from 1-1 to small groups. It gives coaches more time to work on individual techniques and really drill down into improving a player’s performance.
All the clubs and coaches operate in different ways and if you are already involved with a junior set-up talk to the lead coach to find out your options. If you’re not involved with a setup or they don’t offer coaching look through the coaches on the right. Some coach across multiple venues and some are tied to a certain club. Even if you don’t contact the right coach to start with, we all know each other and can point you in the right direction.

In recent years, the county’s top junior teams have achieved significant success, with a number of teams qualifying for the national finals.
Aspire is the first step on the England Talent Pathway, for younger developing players. The programmes goals are to feed the England Potential programme, preparing players for the regional team championships at the end of each season, whilst supporting player development.
