Comberton Junior Squash

About Junior Squash Coaching at Comberton

The Club has a thriving Junior Section, with a wide range of opportunities for juniors from age five to eighteen to get acquainted with the sport and develop their playing skills from beginner to elite standard.

Our free Saturday morning junior sessions, which run during term time, provide a focus for mini-squash (primary school children) and graded sessions for secondary school children. These are open to both boys and girls.

Sessions are graded as follows:-

  • Mini-squash (School Yr 6 and below):            9.35-10.45
  • JS1 (Starters/improvers age 11 and over):     10.50-12.00
  • JS2 (Experienced players):                               12.05-13.15
  • JS3/4 (Elite players):                                         13.20-14.30

All our sessions are run by ESR (England Squash and Racketball) qualified coaches either volunteer or professional.  All our coaches hold CRB certificates.

The club’s success has transferred to Comberton Village College (CVC). The College Boys Under 15 team has achieved considerable success every year for the past six years in the National Schools Squash Tournament. The strength of the CVC boys has now filtered up to Hills Road Sixth Form College, where their “A” and “B” teams compete strongly in the Under 19 division of the National Schools Tournament (most team players are present or former Comberton club members).

The benefits of the link between CVC and the squash club have now been made even stronger with the establishment of a Squash Academy which forms part of the curriculum open to pupils at the College’s recently-established sixth form. The Academy is run by Andy D’Alessandro, one of the club’s professionals, and aims to guide sixth-formers towards high achievement in their sport through a range of fitness and skills activities.
