Cup Finals 2022

Cup Finals 2022

Report from the Cup Finals, held at City of Peterborough Squash and Racketball Club on 26th March.

The cup finals weekend is the last event in the Cambridgeshire team squash calendar. With league positions largely determined, only the knock-out competition remains.
In the Light Blue Travel Cup, in which teams from Div. 1 & 2 compete, the semi finals were:
Club Towers were the expected winners and that semi went to seeding. Hunts County had brought a strong team and March were unusually weak, and Hunts took the win against the league winners.
The finals of the other two competitions took place while the Div. 1 teams had a rest.
In the Hereward Cup final, in which teams from Div. 3 & 4 compete, Comberton Squash Club (Div. 3 winners) took on Saffron Walden Squash Club (Div. 3 3rd place).
Comberton were too strong for a relatively weak Saffron Walden on the day, and were crowned Champions. Congratulations to them!
Well done to both sides for their consistent performances across the season.
In the Portway Perpetual Cup, which is the ladies’ only competition, Cambridge University took on Swavesey Squash Club .
Both teams brought strong teams, but it was Swavesey who took the win 3-2. Swavesey (formerly Fenland) have never won the Cup (since its inauguration in 1985), so congratulations to them on their debut victory.
Finally, the Light Blue Travel final, between Hunts and Club Towers. A very close match, but it was Hunts who won 3-2. Congratulations to Hunts County on their win.
