Stamford have been running since 1979 and have grown rapidly since then, we have moved venues multiple times since then but always keep the club spirit and atmosphere alive. We know that squash courts are nothing without players, so our aim is to connect as many players together as possible to enable the sport to thrive. The club caters for all members playing needs whether they play for fun, social, to keep fit or competitive squash. Coaching can be arranged for those who wish to learn or improve their skills.
Stamford Squash Club runs a League system and all members no matter what level are encouraged to join. There are also club cup competitions which include handicap scoring. These competitions culminate in a finals day which doubles as a social get together and the opportunity to view the finals.
Three teams compete in the Leagues. The 1st team compete in the Cambridgeshire League. The 2nd & 3rd team compete in the Peterborough District League. The club also boasts Tania Bailey as one of its members. She made her way steadily up the rankings with her best ranking being No.4 in the World. Now retired from competitive squash, she is still involved in national coaching and is much in demand for private lessons. Tania, a warm and approachable person, is a very popular member of the club and can often be seen practising there.
On the social side Stamford has weekly Club nights on Thursdays from 7.00pm. Any player of any age or ability is more than welcome. Non-members are also welcome to come and try out the squash club. Club nights are a great opportunity to play different people, to improve or learn more and to meet other like-minded people who you can then go on and arrange to have friendly games with. Generally, after Club night some players retire to the pub and anybody is very welcome to join us.
Squash tours are also organised giving members the opportunity to play away from home at host clubs around the country or even, sometimes, abroad.
